Silver Secrets
In this class we will explore some of the endless possibilities of silver. We will use silver in different forms (leaf, foil, wire, mesh) on its own and along with specialty glasses, to create beads from earthy organics to magical beaches to space-like beads from another world.
We will also cover using specialty glasses (Raku and silver glass).
Subjects:
1. Organics with a Twist You won’t find these in nature! We will use silver on different backgrounds to create fun organic beads and learn to make silvered twisties, wig-wags and more.
2. Space and Beyond Using silver reactions and specialty glasses such as Kronos and Raku to create beads from another world.
3. Magical Beaches We will create abstract “beach” beads with silver, silver glass colors and frit. Use your imagination!

Glass, Glitter and Gravity
This one-day workshop will focus on two main elements:
- Using gravity control to produce eye-catching patterns and create interesting curvy shapes with lots of depth and sparkle, with minimal use of tools.
- Incorporating “glitter” into your beads – in form of gold foil, palladium leaf and dichro. We’ll learn how to get the best results with these materials, Sarah-style.
The class will include 3-4 focal beads and loads of fun!
Projects:
1. Gravity Basics + Dichro We’ll begin the class with a few creative ways of using gravity and learn to work with dichroic glass strips for extra sparkle.
2. Gold What could be more fun than fooling around with 23-karat gold? We’ll learn to encase it to create a ‘Pirate’s Gold’ bead and even burn it away to make gilded ivory.
3. Palladium Palladium leaf is the funkiest metal out there! We’ll be using it in two different ways – encasing it for a magical sparkle and leaving it on the surface to bring out the wild colors.
4. Silk I will share some of my recently-discovered techniques to create a “silk” bead, using your choice of gold or palladium for added bling!
5. Q&A Session |
Required knowledge:
General experience in beadmaking, shaping, pulling stringers and twisties and applying them, dot placement, encasing, etc.
